Gotta luv the press

It's. Not. A. Competition!

Four freaking pages of Google hits showing the press clips of the "competition" between Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard. AGAIN!!! So RCA decides to release their new albums a week apart and were back to rehashing the 2003 release of their debut albums.

These two guys are friends. Good friends. They are probably laughing their butts off over this new round of press. I'm sure they saw it coming. When they went to dinner with Kelly Clarkson in the beginning of July they all probably had a good laugh over what was bound to be printed.

Clay's market is Pop/Rock; Ruben's is Urban. Two entirely different segments of the music listening public. Well...at least it's getting their names out there. So it can't be all bad. Once again, the press proves how easy it is to make up stories and run with them. Gotta luv the press.

Was this a calculated move on Ruben's side?

I was talking to a friend about the Clay/Ruben release dates and mentioned I felt sorry for Ruben because of the inevitable comparisons that will follow the releases. (I'm not bashing Ru, just going by the buzz factor and history). This person is just a casual AI fan and she had a totally different take on it. She said it was a smart move by Ruben's team because he'll be mentioned in every Clay article about the CD.

So far, she's absolutely correct.

And I'm lovin' those #1's. It's just the beginning, isn't it? Thanks for the inspiration, all you haters. I'll bet your heads are spinning as fast as your lies are.

Ruben had his release date changed a few times like they did with Clay.

I think this is all the labels doing - group all the AI alumni together. 19R is still involved with all of them.

This is all manipulation by RCA to try and spur the "competition angle" to sell more CDs.

I totally get that this is all RCA's deal to push sales. Personally, I see it was twice the press for both of them, nothing more.

This is crazy indeed. I love Clay very much and I respect Ruben. The whole rivalry hype is so old, so tired, so yesterday. I wish they'd put it to sleep. Clay and Ruben deserve their own limelight now. Can't the media shift their focus on AI5 and onwards? give those guys their time in the sun!!!
