Cool Clay mentions - May 2006 Pt 2

So did Clay Aiken, the second season runner-up whose Clay Nation of fans made his debut CD a bigger seller than that of second-season winner Studdard

The Princeton Packet
Forget "American Idol" winners Kelly Clarkson or Clay Aiken — on Friday, Princeton will offer up its own pop icon as the Princeton Public Library and HiTOPS sponsor the first-ever "Princeton Idol."

NY Times
The TV Watch column in some copies yesterday, about the season finale of "American Idol," referred incorrectly to Clay Aiken, a former contestant who appeared on the results show on Wednesday night. He was the runner-up in 2003, not the winner. The article also misspelled the surname of one of the finalists this year. He is Elliott Yamin, not Yasmin.

NY Post
Now that "American Idol" is over, we're back to our regularly scheduled programming. But just one more "A.I." thing: The appearance of totally unrecognizable (and good looking) Clay Aiken and the freakout of the Clay-wannabe was the best television all year.

Kansas City Star
The most bizarre surprise involved second-season runner-up Clay Aiken pairing with Michael Sandecki, an adoring but tone-deaf fan and “Idol” tryout victim, to sing “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.”

No one personifies the “Idol” promise like Aiken, a geeky nobody who walked into an audition room in 2002 and five minutes later had his ticket to stardom.

Aiken has already sold 4 million CDs and routinely sells out performances.

TV Watch for Thursday, May 25, 2006:
Fox might have chosen another song, or another artist for the "Idol" finale night. The show already had big name talent--Prince, Clay Aiken, Burt Bacharach, Toni Braxton, Al Jarreau, Meat Loaf, Carrie Underwood and Dionne Warwick

NY Post
But not every "Idol" runner-up has shared Guarini's fate. At least one of them - Clay Aiken, 27, second-place finisher in the second "American Idol" in May 2003 - has eclipsed that year's winner, Ruben Studdard, 27, in CD sales and concert receipts.

In fact, Aiken is second only to Clarkson in overall success since appearing on "American Idol." While she leads him in CD sales, Aiken tops Clarkson in concert-ticket receipts - $28 million to $25 million.

Music-industry experts note that recording stars earn more money from concerts than from CDs. That has been especially true of Aiken and Clarkson, experts say, since they are the only two "Idol" stars to emerge so far as bona-fide concert headliners.

Sun Sentinel
"Aiken, the second-year runner-up, has far eclipsed Studdard in record sales and concert attendance. In fact, other than first-year Idol Kelly Clarkson, who has emerged as a genuine superstar, Aiken is arguably Idol's biggest find."

Nashau Telegraph
NEW YORK – The coronation comes Wednesday night. But if the real prize is a jump start on a career in show business, “American Idol” will, as usual, end the season with more winners than just the official one.

The previous four first-place finishers on TV’s top-rated program have stretched their 15 minutes into recording careers ranging from promising to inarguably successful.

So, too, though, have many of the weekly castaways, who have also landed sweet gigs in music, movies and the stage. (Exhibit A: second season runner-up-turned-unlikely heartthrob Clay Aiken).

USA Today
Interview with Katherine McPhee and Taylor Hicks
Does it really matter if she wins?

"I've had a few people ask me that. Of course, you want to win. Definitely, I'd love to win. I think it depends on the person. Look at Clay Aiken. He's done really well for himself and he didn't win. I don't know if it really matters. When you're in the top two…. Taylor and I looked at each other and said, 'Oh my God it doesn't matter.'… I'm going to be obviously ecstatic if I win, but I will have nothing to complain about if I don't."

Aw, we could inflate the numbers if we spent our time having conversations with our selves. But that would be tossing honesty right out the window.

I'll take low numbers and honesty over inflated numbers and lies anyday.

Thanks for visiting.

Stalkerboy is definitely a legend in his own mind.

He must be so comfortable in that tiny little room with all the blinds closed and smelling his own stink all day long. God, what a pathetic soul.

Aside from the fact that Adam and Leon (real men) scare the daylights out of him it's because he gets a perverse pleasure from the attention he gets having his comments deleted.

He doesn't bother posting here during the night when I set the comments to moderated. That's no fun for him.

I just keep my flyswatter handy.

How much intelligence does it take for pickle to believe I'm Adam and Leon?????!!!! Too funny!

All kidding aside, I can be big hearted and speak the truth from my heart. If John is making some "career" changes, i.e., changing his name, hair, book, new job, etc., I wish him well; I truly mean that. I think it's what he should do, maybe a little late - 5 mos. ago would have been preferred - but better late than never.

It's past time he put all this behind him and moved on and got on with the rest of his life.

I also will say I'm sorry for some of the personal and verbal abuse he has suffered from Clay's fans, if indeed they were Clay's fans. The fans don't always agree with one another. We're a big and diverse Nation and choose to hang with those of like mind; from the teenie bopper boards to the all-Christian boards and everything else in between. That's why there are so many different boards, each with their own rules of conduct. John either didn't understand this or never acknowledged it and lumped us all into one pot as "rabid." This has never been fair and it upset some of the fans.

In any event, I hope John realizes that Clay is continuing on with his career and may have even more fans now than before. It was inevitable; Clay is a hugh talent and his voice will he heard, even though it doesn't appeal to everyone. Nothing has really changed; we may feel a little sad from it all, but no worse for the wear, and we're still very anxious for the new CD and all the public appearances Clay will be making, in even more demand than before.

I wish John no ill will; in fact I wish him well, the best of luck and I hope he finds happiness the sooner the better and God speed.

Ya know, Polly...I would wish the same thing for him if there was any way to believe what he says. He has used and abused people and I, for one, am not tha forgiving.

He intentionally set out to hurt a man and he intentionally set out to hurt his fans. He doesn't get a pass from me for doing that.

Now, if he would delete his blog, stop harrassing us on this blog...then maybe I would see that he was trying to redeem himself and his life. Until then, he can kiss my ass.

Yeahthat, I would not question you or your feelings for a second. But I do feel I understand men to a certain degree, after having been married twice and raising 3 boys and 6 grandsons. Pickle may be looking for a way to save face and if this is his way of doing it, by turning the attention to his book and military career (the only pride he has left in his life), then who am I to try and discourage him?

I never have believed that JP pre-planned any of this, like in a long-range fashion. I think it's something that boomerranged and got out of control from the beginning and he was "dragged" into the situation. I also feel there are some "big" and influential names (definitely not Groucho) behind this scandal and JP became the patsy. Why? That's something we could speculate about forever, although in hindsight it seems rather obvious to me.

True, none of this excuses his actions as a human being and how long he carried it out, but I know I said many times it would be over after AI, and such seems to be the case.

I learned along time ago, in dealing with lying husbands, that no one does anything to US, unless we let them. Sure, the pain is still there, but it's generally God whose law is broken, not ours, and therefore God will handle the situation. It's our job to forgive, let go and let God. I only hope Clay knows this. From the looks of things, I think he does.

P.S. I'm feeling charitable at the moment. If any of this should change from the direction it appears to be going in, you may discount everything I've said. HA!

I know men, too...I'm not 12 or 15 or 20. This person has shown no integrity. None. What he has done is reprehensible. I do not care if there are "big names" behind it. He always had the choice to say no. NO. NO, I will not try to destroy another human being for my own benefit. NO. Very simple...two letters...one word...NO.

He didn't do that. He went on a crusade and took down innocent people in his wake. He lied, he cheated, he spewed his hatred from the mountain tops and, through it all, he tried to blame someone else...Clay or his fans. He still takes NO RESPONSIBLITY for what he has done. None.

The "fame" or the "noteriety" was all that matter to him.

Guess what...he got it and now he has to change his looks and his name to be able to live his life. Guess what else, he has noone to blame but himself.

We all make choices and we all have to live with the consequences of those choices.

If his life sucks, too bad....he made a bad choice.

He can prove himself and his life redeemable by deleting that hate driven blog and moving on with his life. If and when I see that happening...I will work on forgivness. I'm not holding my breath.

I agree, too, and it should be the natural progression of things, but I don't see it ever happening. That was the point of my post.

I would be happy if he just went away, even without confessing. The one is not mutually exclusive of the other. He doesn't need to confess everything in order to go away, does he? Just do it!

BTW: It was fun seeing us all posting on JP's blog last night! LOL

Bwwaahhhhh.

I can translate fine. Ironic how they think we are the delusional ones.

Anybody know whether Groucho is a grandfather? I know he's old enough to be one. Wonder how he'd deal with gay grandchildren considering how homophobic he is. I've heard rumors that he's angry with himself for being attracted to cutesingerguy.

What's the cut off year for being old. Pickle is pushing 40.

June 03, 2006 6:53 PM
Blogger superdeluxewonderful said...

Ummm...I've heard the same thing about Groucho. Those who protest and hate as much as he does are protesting and hating too much, me thinks.

Poor delusional Groucho...I pity the woman who decided to spend her life with him.

June 03, 2006 7:21 PM
Blogger Oh Crap said...

I'm normally a very forgiving person but NOT this time. It would be nice if the pickle would come forward and blow the lid off the whole smear campaign..how it got started, his part in it, who supports him, how Groucho and Emach got into it and took over.

I want names and faces put out for the public so those who were hell bent on disgracing Clay would, themselves, be shown for the vile, disgraceful low lifes that they are. I want them all to be dogged for the rest of their lives, never being secure in a job, in their homes, and out in public. They deserve no less.

Because of them, I have learned to hate and I guess I would expect vengence for that alone.
