Cyber Smear Campaigns
Cyber Terrorism and Cyber Stalking have a cousin called Cyber Smear. Cyber Smearing is false and misleading information posted under the guise of informing the public. Message boards, chat rooms and blogs make it easy for a small group to seem larger than they are and to push their smear agenda, but more and more state laws are addressing Cyber Smearing and those engaging in this "hobby" are now running serious legal risks.
Why do those engaging in the smear campaigns do this? Is it to gain a sense of power? Sadistic pleasure? An ego trip? Revenge? Make themselves look better by tearing down someone else?
Becoming the victim of Cyber Smearing most likely means you've accomplished more than your detractors ever will. The smear mongers want nothing more than to silence you and use the anonynimity of the internet to further their depraved schemes.
One web site CyberSmear Watchtower states "Slander, Smear, Libel, Defamation, Pernicious Claims, Baneful Statements, Virulent Accusations, and Injurious Representations: all terms that are as old as sand. But with the transformation of the simple grain of sand into silicon, and the resultant transformation of the Industrial Age into the Information Age, each of these terms undergoes their own metamorphosis. Character assassination of an individual or company is nothing new, but the advent and popularity of the Internet provides a new and effective format for propagating these oldest of human malignancies. "

What, if any, legal recourse is there for this crap?
It seems to me that people who engage in this type of cyber bullying, smearing, etc. must lead very sad, lonely lives.
Lets see, we've got fake 'insider' reports, fake e-mail addresses, fake lawsuit threats, fake photos, fake harassment stories, fake screen names, fake interviews, etc. And they call the fans obsessed.
No kidding...I've never seen a group(heh, heh) of people who would spend every waking hour creating this crap about someone they supposedly hate.
What is the point? It isn't doing anything but bolstering the support for Clay.
More and more people are coming to the conclusion that this guy is a nutbar.
I saw these two important things on that website:
4. Cyber Smear perpetrators universally hide behind the first amendment, but remember, free speech does not mean false speech!
5. Evil left unchecked is evil encouraged. The only way to win against Cybersmear is to fight with all legal weaponry.
So it comes down to prove it.
The problem with trying to prove that it is false is that the argument becomes a bigger story than the accusations. And then the accusations get heard by so many more folks that it is just not worth fighting it.
Not to mention that once you start, you have a full time job continually fighting the smearing. Cuz the minute that you STOP then they just say, well in this case it must be true. Sigh.
I wish there were a better way to regulate what is allowed to be smeared across the internt.
But no great ideas from me.
This guy doesn't have to prove anything, apparently, for the "anti-fans" to eat it up. They're like a bunch of vultures waiting for the next blow...
If he starts making accusations about illegal behavior, he'd better be able to prove THAT. He can't hide behind the free speech mantra then.

I think that rather than attack the lie, it's better to go after the liar. Put some teeth into the existing laws or create new laws that give the victims the leverage they need.
Be aware that everything you read and/or hear is not truth. Arm yourself with facts so if you do happen to run into someone gullible enough to believe the smears you've got some ammunition and can explain how smear campaigns work.
That way your not defending the victim, your putting the focus back on the ones attacking the victim.
The most curious thing about this last five months is why all this attacking, exposing, etc. is going on for a second place finisher in a reality program?
Or is there something else going on here and in the tabloids? It's very curious as to why Clay is getting all this attention! Why is that?
I would think they would have waited until he was a much bigger star. You know the old saying,"The bigger they are the harder they fall." 2 and 1/2 years and all this acidic vitrol for a singer. Amazing!
All John had to do was bid his time and wait for Clay to become more famous and hit him at the least expected moment.
UNLESS Clay is considered a much more dangerous person as he builds his fandom, regardless of their psyche.
Lionel Ritchie has already said that Clay was the reason people are turning back to good music.
People are turning away from Rap, Hip-Hop, etc. and listening to Manilow, Buble, Ritchie, etc.
Clay tapped into that wave in everyone of his concerts. Celine Dion has sold-out shows. Josh Groban does the same.
If I'm right about this major swing away from the "music," played
the past ten years or so, could Clay be the "whipping boy" to stem the tide away from music we really can't sing along without earplugs.
Sales of CDs have dropped 25% the past few years. Coincidence?
Maybe.
It will be interesting to watch all this play out. A year or two from now, it will be interesting who wins this battle or has a war just begun?
What we're seeing is a convergence of a few individuals with their own agendas coming together and finding a pasty looking for attention but too dumb to see how he's being used. They kiss his butt and tell him how great he is all the while they are getting him to do their dirty work.
I talked to a linguistic expert and English minor who graduated from Princeton. She doesn't know much about Clay or the situation but she loves his voice. I told her to analyze a lot of the letters, as well as, the IMs of John's. I did not say anything to her because I don't want to pass on such a sick story. She said that she could see the similarities to the trunication of the English language. She knew everything that was similar and different. The use of certain words, etc. She is so intelligent, she knew the uses that were the same and everything. It's obvious that most of the posts, as well as, the testimonies John created and passed them off as fake alias for his own satisfaction.
I thought JP was just a dumbass but he surpassed that. Now he wants to sue Claymates and call Clay as some sort of witness and have him exposed in court.
His momma needs to haul is purple pickle outta dat bedroom and get him some help.

He would HAVE to tell the truth unless he wished to purjure himself. I could think of no better gift that Claymates could give to Clay than to report me for Cybersmearing. Hmmm...let's analyze this, shall we? We report YOU for Cybersmearing/stalking...ok. First of all, is there any evidence of Cybersmearing? I'd say yes. (You may have deleted it, but we screen capped it all). So, after a thorough investigation charges would be brought against YOU, Lil dude, which makes you the defendant; in other words, you will need defending...hello? But of course, in keeping to your control and power trip mode, you would tell YOUR attorneys who to call first! I'm LMAO!!
As a defendant, you don't get to speak until AFTER the prosecution puts on their case. They would call about 200 "Carols," some very distinguished Clay fans such as Claytango and Raleighlady. And let's not forget Reporter, Dish, Just sayin' and little ole me, who would present into evidence my list of 30 some questions that you refuse to answer! And last but not least, the star witness for the prosecution would be the MAN, himself!

Something very interesting just occurred. Last night at PH I suggested that PH might be Insane Bastard. Then I posted several excerpts from IB posts dealing with his mention of "his SITE."
About a half hour ago, I tried to post IB's posts and got away with the first one, just testing the filters. I waited and tried a second and a third time. The PH board will not allow me to post them. I wonder why? I find that rather interesting, don't you?

From what I understand, and I'm far from an expert, the program is alerted to certain key words or links that the blogger will not allow. For instance, you cannot post Perez's real name, or at least it wouldn't allow me, which is Mario Lavandeira.
The little pop up explains that it's to protect against malicious content, but I've had it occur for no reason at all.
"purjure" The spelling illiterate strikes again. The word is perjure you frogface idiot. Yeah, let someone "purjure" themselves whatever the hell that means.
